Service Project: Scaling Up the Synthesis and Characterization of Mesoporous SBA-15-Type Materials with Controlled Pore-Sizes

The synthesis of silica materials with a narrow, monomodal distribution is one of the greatest successes of the CRC and has made the work on confinement effects in the first two funding periods possible. In the 3rd funding period, we will establish protocols for scaling up their syntheses. We will increase the scale of the materials synthesis by a factor of up to 10x in order to see how the materials properties change. This will allow us to provide these silica materials to the other CRC subprojects and to assess the potential application of such syntheses in an industrial setting.
