Title: FAIR analysis and parametrisation of reaction kinetics
Course for doctoral candidates and postdocs
Lecturer: Prof Johann M. Rohwer
Dates: 18 – 19 September 2025, all day
Number of participants: approximately 15
Please register by July 31, 2025 via the form below.
Description:
This course will provide an introduction to the computational analysis of experimental reaction kinetics in order to estimate parameters for kinetic modelling. Students will be exposed to hands-on analysis of experimental datasets using various Python modules, which integrate seamlessly with the scientific Python ecosystem. Specific topics to be covered include:
- Derivation of a rate equation from a kinetic mechanism
- Analysis of NMR time-course data with NMRPy
- Analysis of spectroscopic microtiter plate data with MTPHandler
- Analysis of chromatographic time-course data with ChromatoPy
- Kinetic modelling and parameter estimation with PySCeS
- FAIR data management
Example datasets for enzyme kinetics experiments will be provided. The approach is, however, applicable to the general analysis of reaction kinetics and not limited to enzyme-catalysed reactions. Students are encouraged to bring their own datasets if they have these. Prior exposure to the Python programming language is an advantage but not a requirement. All software used are open-source and freely available, and detailed installation instructions will be provided beforehand.
Participants will need to bring their own laptop.
