Workshop Review: Clarity, Focus, and Well-Being in Doctoral Research

Doctoral research often involves high levels of responsibility, complex demands, and uncertain structures—factors that can lead to writer’s block, procrastination, and stress. To support its early-career researchers, the CRC 1333 recently hosted the mental health workshop Pursuing your PhD with clarity, joy, and focus in English, led by Silvia Balaban from Recalibration.

Combining insights from business psychology with practical tools, the workshop addressed common challenges in the doctoral journey. Participants explored strategies to overcome writer’s block, reduce procrastination, and create conditions for focused, productive work. Additional topics included setting priorities, using personal strengths effectively, and developing techniques for stress regulation and mental recovery.

The interactive format—featuring short inputs, reflection exercises, and group exchange—allowed participants to connect the content directly to their own work and share experiences across disciplines.

We want to thank all participants for their engagement and looks forward to the German workshop in October!
