Dear female employees of the University of Stuttgart,
Equal rights, equal opportunities, equal appreciation: On March 8, we focus on what moves women around the world. In Germany, we have achieved a great deal formally, but there is still a long way to go before we achieve true equality in life, at work, and in our minds. It is up to all of us to continue courageously on this path and finally break down barriers.
At our university, women continue to be underrepresented in many areas. And even where there are enough women, their achievements often go unnoticed. Yet our university, science, and society would be unthinkable without women. That is why, on this year’s International Women’s Day, we would like to explicitly honor the achievements of women at our university—in research, teaching, studies, libraries, technology, and administration.
We cordially invite you to a film event followed by a get-together on
Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in lecture hall M17.02, Keplerstraße 17 (Campus City Center), 2nd basement floor.
We will be showing the 2024 film “The Day Iceland Stood Still,” which illustrates what happens when (almost) all women in a country stop working in their jobs, families, and volunteer positions for one day. In Iceland, the “women’s strike” of 1975 led to a rethinking of society and subsequently made the country “the best place to be a woman.” The film will be shown in the original English and Icelandic with German subtitles.
After the film, there will be an opportunity to chat over snacks and soft drinks in the foyer of the lecture hall.
It would be very helpful for our planning if you could register for the event at Film screening on International Women’s Day | Event | Mar 4, 2026 | For employees | University of Stuttgart. We look forward to seeing you there!
