We are very happy to welcome within the CRC 1333 Advanced Scientific Course:
Dr. Gerhard Mestl, Head of Oxidation Catalysis at Clariant
Topic: “Aspects of Catalyst Design in Industry“
Date: 29/04/2026
Time: all-day (9:00am to 4:00pm)
Place: U32.101
How does a promising catalyst progress from a laboratory concept to large-scale industrial application? This question is the focus of the one-day course, in which Dr. G. Mestl (Clariant) provides insights into real-world innovation processes in catalysis research.
Using a specific industrial development project as an example, the seminar traces the pathway of a catalyst from early-stage research through patent strategies and scale-up studies to full process implementation. It highlights how scientific questions evolve once technical, economic, and regulatory requirements come into play.
Another focus is on the differences between academic and industrial research cultures. The seminar explores which skills are particularly valued in industrial research and how (post-)doctoral researchers can prepare early for corresponding career paths.
